Don't be tossed by the storm

Updated: Mar 6, 2023

Whether you believe the bible to fact or fiction, there are several life lessons that we all can apply. One such example is contained in Matthew 14: 25-31

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. 27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” The teaching: The disciple, in this case Peter confident , as long as the water was calm, that he could walk out on the water, he had faith, he was focused. Then the wind picked up, the waves got bigger, and he started to drown. He did not sink because he lost his confidence, his belief, or his faith, he started to sink simply because he was distracted. The wind distracted his faith and caused it to cease even temporally. In life, in business, we need to remember that our faith will be tested from time to time, there will be distractions almost daily, the key is to not allow those distractions to stop our faith. Its not just faith in a calling, a mission, a higher power, or in God. It is also faith in our self, faith that we can do this, whatever the “this “is, that we are qualified, the faith that with work, focus and concertation we can not only do it, but we can also succeed at it. Its having an unwavering faith that these hard times, these trials and James calls them , will not be our demise, they are lessons, and lessons are new experience's, knew knowledge to pass down, lessons we remember for the next time we face them. We recall how we weathered the last one, we simply grow. When times are good, we have all the confidence and faith in the world, however its when times are not so smooth that we need to display it.
